Rice flour is one of the most common ingredient used in most households. I’m sharing a recipe with step-wise video to make it at home. All you need is one ingredient and that’s raw rice. We use rice flour to make different snacks for special ocassions like murukku, ribbon pakoda or even omapodi (sev).

We usually do not use store bought rice flour for festivals especially if we are using rice flour to make sweets and savory as an offering for God. I have used Raw sona masuri rice to make this rice. You can use ponni raw rice or permal raw rice too. Raw rice works best to make rice flour and easier to grind too. If you are making rice flour in a bigger batch, you can give it to a local miller for grinding. The rice flour stays fresh for a long time and can be stored easily for 6 months. Just make sure that you store it in cool place and always use a dry spoon to use it.
You can even use rice flour as a thickening agent like I have used it for Puli Kolumbu. Some of my favorite snack recipes are:
Rice flour is also used to make KOzhukattai for Ganesh chaturthi and Varalakshmi festival. Check out recipes for it:
