Uttapam is an Indian savory pancakes made with a combination of rice and white lentil. It is a popular breakfast in South India and you will find many variations to it. They are thicker than Dosa and soft and spongy. I make plain uttapams too but I was in a mood to make Onion tomato Uttapam today.
I have used idli batter to make this Onion tomato uttapam. Click here for the recipe for idli batter. I have added only onion and tomatoes but you can also add vegetables like carrot, capsicum, sweet corn to make various types of vegetable uttapams. So, sharing the recipe to make these healthy savory pancakes. Make them for your family and enjoy.. I have served them with carrot coconut chutney. Click here for the recipe.
Onion Tomato Uttapam
Ingredients
- Idli Batter - 4 cups
- Onions - 2 finely chopped
- Tomatoes - 2 finely chopped
- Fresh coriander leaves - ¼ cup
- Green chillies - 4 finely chopped
- Sesame oil - 4-6 tbsp
Instructions
-
Keep the batter ready. Add more water if you feel its too thick.
-
Heat a tawa/griddle and grease it lightly with oil for a minute.
-
Lower the flame and scoop a ladle full of the batter and pour it over the griddle. It has to be thick, so just spread it lightly. Pour few drops of oil along the sides of the uttapam.
-
Sprinkle chopped veggies - onion, tomato, coriander leaves, green chillies and let it cook for 2 minutes.
-
Turn it over and let the other side also cook for a minute.
-
Serve these savory pancakes with chutney.
