Curry Leaves Chutney

Curry leaves chutney or karuvepillai chutney is a healthy chutney which you can serve with dosa, idli etc..Curry leaves are integral part of Indian cooking and widely used in many dishes. They even help in controlling cholesterol and one of my favorite herb. My grandma used to say that they are even good for eyesight. So, sharing a simple recipe to use curry leaves.

Learn how to make Curry leaves chutney!
Ingredients
  • Curry leaves – 1 cup
  • Roasted Bengal Gram – 1 tbsp
  • Grated coconut – 1/2 cup
  • Red chilies – 2
  • Asafoetida/hing – a pinch
  • Sesame oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste
Instructions
  1. Add curry leaves in a frying pan and dry roast till curry leaves become little crispier. Add red chili and asafoetida and saute for few more seconds.
  2. Add this along with coconut, roasted bengal gram in your grinder and coarsely grind it.
  3. Add only little water which is required to make it into a paste.
  4. Transfer it into a bowl, add salt to taste and mix well.
  5. Add sesame oil in a small frying pan and when oil is warm, add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds crackle add to the chutney.
  6. You can serve this chutney with dosas, idlis, uttapams etc.

    I had no idea about all of the health benefits of curry leaves, thank you for enlightening me! I've used curry paste before, where would I find the leaves? Does the paste have the same health benefits?

      I wish I could help finding you curry leaves. They are found in abundance in India easily in any Indian vegetable store or farmers market. Curry leaves have many medicinal benefits and they do help if used regularly.

    I had no idea this is a natural way to help decrease Cholesterol, Curry leaves chutney is definitely going to be a new menu item to try. I am going to recommend this to my friend Carrie for her mom who is battling stage 4 cancer. Thank you for sharing this wealth of knowledge!
