Any chef will advice you to taste the food before serving and tell you to be careful with salt. There is a clear reason behind it. We can always adjust the seasoning and salt once we taste it. Even an over salted food can be served. All you need are these cool 6 ways to adjust an over salted food dish.
- Raw potatoes –ย Potatoes are always handy in a kitchen. I always load my pantry with it as my family is a fan of potatoes. They come handy even when I over salt a soup, curry or even stir fries. Quickly peel and dice a potato and add it in the dish. Cook the dish again for few minutes. As the dish gets cooked, the raw potatoes will absorb the extra seasoning.
- Add a small ball of dough – This is a tip I learnt from my grandma. We Indians usually have dough to make roti handy. In case you have over salted the curry, add a small ball of that dough in your curry and cook it for few minutes. The dough will absorb the extra seasoning. If you do not have dough handy, you can make it easily. Just add 2 tbsp wheat flour in a small bowl and slowly add water to it to make a small portion ofย dough and use it. You can even use all purpose flour.
- Olive Oil – If you have over salted a sauce or even a salad, adjust it by adding 1-2 tbsp of olive oil. Any salad dressing will usually have oil in it and it will adjust the extra seasoning.
- Dairy or Creamer – Add a 1-2 tbsp of milk or creamer to adjust any over salted curry or soup. It even works for stir-fries.
- Lemon juice – This comes handy especially if you have over salted biryani or any vegetable rice. Add 1-2 lemon juice to adjust the over salted cooked rice.
- Croutons –ย You can even add cubed bread pieces or croutons to adjust over salted soup, salad and even curry. Bread will absorb the seasoning easily. Click here to learn to make croutons at home.
I hope you find these tips useful. If you know any other way to adjust over salted dishes, please do share it me. Drop them as a comment and I will be happy to share it with my readers.
