Paal kozhukattai is a delicious dessert made for Lord Ganesha. Vinayaka Chaturthi is a festival celebrated in India for lord Ganesha’s birthday. Food always plays a key role in Indian festivals and we make modak and kozhukattai to celebrate Ganesh chaturthi festival. Each region in India has their own way to make sweets and savories.

Paal kozhukattai recipe using Idhayam Sesame Oil

Paal Kozhukattai is from South India made with small balls of rice which is cooked in milk with sugar, cardamom and saffron. We also make savory version of it known as Ammini Kozhukattai and I have already shared the recipe of the same. So, sharing another easy recipe for a dish which you can make for Lord Ganesha..

Paal Kozhukattai Recipe

Ingredients

  • Raw Rice - 1/2 Cup
  • Milk - 1 Cup
  • Sugar - 1/4 Cup
  • Coconut Milk - 1/2 Cup
  • Saffron strands - 10
  • Green Cardamom - 2 powdered
  • Idhayam Sesame oil - 2 tsp
  • Salt - 1/8 tsp

Instructions

  1. Clean and soak rice in water for 1 hour.

  2. Grind the rice along with little water to make a smooth batter.

  3. Heat a heavy bottom pan on low flame and add this rice batter in it.

  4. Add a pinch of salt, 1/2 tsp Sesame oil, 2 tbsp Milk and stir continuously till it combines and forms a dough.

  5. Remove from the flame. Let it cool down. Grease your hands with sesame oil and knead the dough. Make small balls from this dough.

  6. Heat another pan and add remaining milk.

  7. Drop the rice balls in it and let it cook on low flame for 5 minutes.
  8. Now add coconut milk, sugar, saffron strands and mix well. Let it simmer for few minutes.
  9. Remove from the flame, add cardamom powder, mix and serve.
