Matar Paneer Masala Recipe

Matar paneer masala is a very popular Indian Curry prepared with cottage cheese and fresh peas. The curry is cooked in tomato gravy and cream is added in the ended to make it even more delicious. It is usually served with roti (Indian flat bread) but it can also be served with rice too.

Matar Paneer Masala

Ingredients

  • Peas - 1/2 cup
  • Cottage cheese / paneer - 200 gm
  • 1 Onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • Ginger (chopped) - 1 tbsp
  • Garlic cloves - 3
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Fresh cream - 2 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • Vegetable Oil - 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Chop paneer in equal cubes. Heat a griddle/tawa and toast paneer cubes with little oil till they turn light brown on all sides. Keep this ready in a separate bowl.

  2. Now take onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic cloves in a blender and blitz it to make a paste.

  3. Add 1 tbsp of oil in a frying pan and when oil is warm, add cumin seeds and let it crackle.

  4. Now add onion tomato paste and saute for few minutes till oil separates from the gravy.

  5. Add turmeric powder, garam masala, red chilli powder and mix it well.

  6. Add fresh green peas and mix well.Lower the flame, add 1/2 cup of water, close the pan and let it simmer till peas become soft and get cooked properly.

  7. Add paneer cubes and cook on low flame for 2 minutes.

  8. Add fresh cream, mix and serve.
