Ingredients

  • 250 gm Okra/Bhindi
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup besan/chickpeas flour
  • 1/4 cup rice flour
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Clean the okras nicely under water.

  2. Remove the ends and slice each okra into 4 equal pieces. Remove maximum seeds possible.

  3. Take a bowl and add sliced okra.

  4. Now add red chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, salt and mix well. Set it aside for 10 minutes.

  5. Now add chickpeas flour and rice flour and mix well. Let okras get coated with the flour evenly.

  6. Heat 1 cup oil in a pan and when oil is hot enough, add some of the okra for deep frying.

  7. Deep fry on medium flame. Strain the excess oil and place it on a plate lined with paper tissue.

  8. Squeeze some lemon juice and serve.

Recipe Notes

Please make sure to set aside okras for 10 minutes after adding salt. It will leave water and it will be easier to bind the flour with it.

These look really crispy and tasty. I’ve not cooked much with okra so it’s great to have some helpful tips too.

That texture is incredible! Fried okra is one of my favorites to order at restaurants, but great to know it’s so easy to make at home, too!
