Neer Moru

Neer Moru is a spiced buttermilk drink which is very popular in South Indian households. We even prepare it for special occasions like Tamil new year, Ramnavami etc.

  • plain yogurt/dahi – 1 cup
  • Water – 3 cups
  • Grated ginger – 1 tsp
  • Green chilli - 1 finely chopped
  • Asafoetida – 1/8 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • Curry leaves - 4-5
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • vegetable oil - 1 tsp
  • Few coriander leaves finely chopped


  1. Add yogurt, water, salt to taste, asafoetida and blend it.
  2. Add green chillies, ginger, few coriander leaves and mix it well.
  3. In a small frying pan add oil and temper mustard seeds. When mustard seeds crackle, add curry leaves and saute for few seconds.
  4. Add this in prepared buttermilk and mix well.
  5. You can serve immediately or you can even refrigerate and serve chilled.
