  • 1 cup Spinach cleaned and finely chopped
  • 1 Onion peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup Besan/Gram Flour/chickpeas flour
  • 1/4 cup Rice Flour
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • vegetable oil for deep frying


  1. Add all ingredients except oil in a mixing bowl and mix it well with your hands to make a thick batter.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium flame.
  3. Drop small portions of the batter using a spoon or your hands and fry till golden brown.
  4. Remove from the pan and drain the excess oil.
  5. Serve it hot with some tomato ketchup or dip of your choice.

Recipe Notes

Make sure to check if oil is ready. You can check by dropping a small ball of the dough in the hot oil and if it immediately comes on top, oil is ready.

There is no need to add water while mixing batter as spinach, onion, salt will leave enough water to make it wet.
