Pepper Rasam Recipe

Ingredients

  • Tamarind - 1 tbsp
  • Tomato - 1 chopped
  • Pepper Rasam Powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Jaggery - 1 tsp powdered
  • Asafoetida/ Hing - 1/8 tsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
  • Fresh Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Soak tamarind in 1 cup of warm water for 15 minutes. Extract the juice by removing the pulp and seeds.

  2. In a sauce pan, add tamarind water and chopped tomatoes.

  3. Add pepper rasam powder, turmeric powder, jaggery, salt and 2 cups of water. Mix it well, lower flame and let it cook for few minutes minutes.

  4. Add some fresh coriander leaves, mix well and remove from flame.

  5. In a small frying pan, add ghee and mustard seeds. When mustard seeds crackle, add asafoetida and curry leaves.

  6. Add this tempering to rasam and serve.
