Ingredients

  • Raw rice - 1 cup
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Idhayam Sesame Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Freshly dessicated Coconut - 1/2 Cup
  • Jaggery - 1/2 Cup (powdered)
  • Cardamom - 2 (powdered)
  • Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Idhayam Sambandhi Sesame Seeds - 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Roast 2 tbsp sesame seeds nicely. Keep stirring till it turns light brown evenly. Let it cool down and grind it to make a powder.

  2. Clean and soak rice in water for 1 hour. Drain the water and grind it with 1 cup of water to make a smooth batter.

  3. Heat a pan and add the batter, salt, 1 tbsp sesame oil and 1 cup of water to it.

  4. Lower the flame and keep stirring till it becomes a dough and remove from the gas stove. Transfer in a bowl and keep it closed.

  5. Knead the dough nicely with oil greased hands.

  6. Heat a pan with 4 tbsp water and add grated jaggery to it. Once jaggery melts, remove from flame and strain it.

  7. Heat the pan again and add jaggery water. When it starts thickening, add the grated coconut, roasted sesame seeds powder to it and keep stirring for few minutes. Add ghee and mix well.

  8. Add the cardamom powder to it and mix it well. The poornam is ready.

  9. Grease your hands with sesame oil and take some poornam in your hand and roll it into small balls.

  10. Take a little rice dough and make a ball of it. Press in the middle of the ball and start flattening it and form a cup.

  11. Place the poornam in it and close it. Follow the same steps for rest of the poornam balls.

  12. Take an idli plate and grease it with sesame oil. Place all the Kozhukattai on it and steam it for 6-8 minutes.
