How To Make Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is widely used in South India to make curry, smoothies and stew. I always stalk up on coconut milk being a South Indian. We even use it to even make desserts or sweets for festivals. Coconut milk is extracted from freshly scraped coconut. It is quite easy to make it at home.

How To Make Coconut Milk

Ingredients

  • 1 Coconut
  • 2 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. Break one medium size coconut and scrape out the complete coconut. 

  2. Add freshly scraped coconut and 1 cup of warm water in your blender and blitz it for few seconds. Strain it through a thin muslin cloth to extract the coconut milk. The first lot will be thick milk.


  3. Now again add the scraped coconut with 1 cup warm water in your blender, blitz it and extract the second cup of coconut milk which will be thinner compared to the first cup of coconut milk.

Recipe Notes

Do not discard the scraped coconut after extracting milk. You can use it to make coconut chutney.

You can refrigerate and store this milk for upto 5-7 days.
