Thogayal is a South Indian condiment which can be served with rice, Idlis, Dosa etc. I made Peerkangai thogayal today which is made with goodness of ridge gourd.
I served this ridge gourd chutney with some lemon Sevai for breakfast today. My family loved it and it is so easy to make too! So, sharing the recipe for Peerkangai thogayal today. Hope you all try it out too. You can simply mix Peerkangai thogayal with steamed rice, drizzle some ghee and enjoy too.


Peerkangai Thogayal / Ridge Gourd Chutney

Ingredients
- Peerkangai / Ridge gourd - 1 peeled and chopped
- Chana dal/ split chickpeas - 2 tbsp
- Fresh grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Dried Red chillies - 3
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Tamarind( - 1 tbsp
- Few curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- Sesame oil/Cooking Oil – 2 tsp
Instructions

Clean, peel and chop the ridge gourd and keep it ready.

Heat a pan with oil and when its warm add the asafoetida, chana dal and red chillies.

Saute on medium flame till the lentil turns golden brown.

Add the ridge gourd pieces, curry leaves and tamarind in the same pan and sauté till the ridge gourd pieces are soft and cooked. Allow it to cool down completely

Add this ridge gourd mix in your food processor and grind it to make a coarse paste. Use minimum water.

Transfer content in a bowl, salt to taste and serve.
